SAFE
Beyond my fear, the elements
batter the harsh stone walls.
The sea rears up, cuts off
escape along the causeway. At the tide's mercy,
I am left, my mind replete
with dark and deadly images.
The waters rage around me,
and the storm does not abate.
But as the darkness deepens
and the nights
wears on,
I can begin to feel the stirring
of Your peace within me.

UNTIL THE LIGHT
Until the light,
his dark heart
disapproved of much.
It fabricated lies,
delays, excuses and evasions,
steered him clear
of the edge of truth.
He kept a straight path
which wouldn't lead
through sin-infested woods
and human jungles.
Until the light.
Somehow a crack appeared
in his too-sure defences.
Light flooded in,
and he saw clearly then:
his heart was dark
no more. He left
the steering to the Guide,
and found himself
progressing down
the roads he'd marked,
but in his fearfulness
had never taken.
